Turning Tees to Trends
Do you have an excess amount of old t-shirts taking up space in the back of your closet that you don’t know what to do with?
Do you enjoy thrifting like I do and love finding t-shirts for 99 cents and under?
Here’s an easy (and super inexpensive) way to spice up all of those old tees that you haven’t worn in years or those newly purchased tees you’re excited to experiment with.
Bleaching t-shirts may sound daunting at first, but I can assure you that with the proper supplies, it’ll be easy and fun! To make a splatter design similar to my shirt pictured, you will need:
- Any t-shirt (process works best on a 100% cotton shirt)
- Household bleach
- Plastic spray bottle (you can buy an empty one at any drug store or reuse an old kitchen cleaning spray bottle at home)
- Disposable gloves
- Newspaper
WARNING: if bleach gets on any other clothing, it will permanently stain!
Make sure you are wearing old clothing than can get dirty.
First, lay newspaper down on your surface followed by your t-shirt out on top. Fill your spray bottle halfway with bleach and then fill the rest of the bottle with water to slightly dilute the bleach. Hold bottle up from the
t-shirt and begin spraying the surface of the shirt. Do not forget to spray the sleeves and the seems of the shirt. Once the front of the tee is complete, leave it to dry for about 10 minutes before flipping to the back side. Repeat process on back side and allow shirt to dry for 10 minutes. After both sides are complete, hand wash in cold water and hang to dry.
Since bleach shirts are such a huge trend right now, I wanted to share this easy DIY so you can wear the trend without paying the hefty price. With an inexpensive pair of fabric scissors, you can also distress and cut holes or v-neck designs into your bleach tees to make them even more on trend.
All of these lovely photos are taken by my talented shirt bleacher and photographer boyfriend Daniel Gorelik. Make sure to check out his pictures and as always, rock on and look out for a new post here on Concert Couture soon! 🙂
